12/14/16 Health Update

Health Alert

December 14, 2016

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The Lafayette Township School District cares deeply about the health and well-being of every student in our district. To that end, I wanted to share recent information impacting our school community. Since November, there have been three confirmed cases of mononucleosis at the Lafayette Township School District. Two of the cases have occurred within the last two weeks.

Mononucleosis is a virus that may cause fatigue, sore throat, fever, and other complications.

Information regarding mononucleosis can be found on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website at https://www.cdc.gov/epstein-barr/about-mono.html.

Additional information from the Mayo Clinic can be located at http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/mononucleosis/home/ovc-20165827.

Please know that our custodial team is working diligently to ensure that surfaces, drinking fountains, and other common areas are disinfected daily. Please encourage your children to wash their hands prior to eating and throughout the day. Students should be encouraged not to share water bottles or food.

If you feel that your child is exhibiting symptoms, please follow up with your pediatrician and notify Mrs. Faris.

Thank you for your attention to this important notification.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Cenatiempo
